Hans Christian Andersen’s House

In a landmark building by Kengo Kuma Architects and in the heart of the old city of Odense, surrounding the house where the famous storyteller was born, unfolds a world of fairytales. The characters of Andersen’s stories come to life, staged amongst life-size setworks that interpret the writer’s intentions and playfulness. Natalia has supported the creation of this unique museum by designing specific exhibits- like Creativity, Clumsy Hans, the Princess and the Pea, the Emperor's new clothes- but most importantly, by master planning and detailing Ville Vau- the Wonder world for children, working closely with the Museum’s dedicated team.

Defining playfulness for all ages

The exhibition concept is approaching the fairytales from an adult’s point of view- however there is plenty of space for introducing the unexpected, the subversive, the ridiculous and the magical in the shape of details, illustrations, lighting or displays. Where the kids come center-stage is the dedicated Children’s Realm, where all the above are magnified. Everything is designed in a scale that accommodates children only, toys are life-like, materiality is fun and the layout invites for adventures and discoveries. Welcome to Ville- Vau: Strictly for children- no adults allowed!
