The complexity of this project lied on the variety of the collections; each gallery hosting a different one: natural history, fine arts, media and photography, social history, archaeology… Unifying the “look” whilst allowing the exhibition design to cater for various “feels” to match the nature of the collections on display was a significant challenge. A grid system and modular display furniture were applied, with graphics becoming the unifying thread throughout the whole museum. As a result, the Box feels easy to navigate and approach, whilst a surprisingly different experience meets the visitor every time they cross another threshold.
